1. How do I make an appointment and what do I do after the appointment has been made?
Please call the main office number to make an appointment with the therapist. The office manager will be able to set up an appointment time with the therapist that best fits the client’s schedule and the therapist’s availability.
After the appointment has been made, the client can then go to the Forms tab on the home page. After clicking on the Forms tab, you can download the necessary intake paperwork that can be completed before your initial session. If you are unable to download or print the paperwork, please arrive 15 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment time and the paperwork will be provided for you at the front desk.
2. How much does a session cost? Do you take insurance? What payment methods do you take?
A therapeutic hour is considered 50 minutes although most therapy sessions may run between 50 -60 minutes. Sessions are priced per therapeutic hour. The Oaks Counseling Center uses a sliding scale that can be located under the Forms tab in the informed consent section of the downloads. If you are unable to access this information please call the office and our office manager can help you determine your fee.
It is possible that you may be able to use your insurance in order to cover therapy costs. This will depend on whether your therapist is a covered provider for your particular insurance, whether you plan has mental health coverage, and whether you have met your deductible.

4. How many sessions can I expect to attend?
The number of sessions varies greatly and is tailored to the unique and specific needs of each client.
5. What can I expect at my first session?
Initially, if you have not already printed and completed paperwork, the therapist will require the necessary paperwork be completed. This paperwork includes basic personal information such as name, address, phone number, and birthdate as well as a brief reason for seeking counseling and current symptoms the client is experiencing. The client will also be made aware of the policies and procedures for the counseling center along with confidentiality requirements and exceptions to confidentiality.
Once the client is in session, the therapist will review the paperwork and begin gathering relevant information about why the client is seeking therapy. This may include the current situation, current and past family and/or relational history, and any other information the client and therapist may feel is relevant to the presenting issue. Goals for what the client would like to accomplish in therapy are established to help structure future sessions.
6. How often do I need to come to session?
Typically, the therapist will want to begin by seeing the client weekly for a mutually determined amount of time. The therapist and client will then go to an every two weeks schedule until the client and therapist feel the client is ready to be seen once a month. Once the client is being seen once a month, the therapist allows the client to choose to continue the monthly sessions as the client sees fit or as needed by the client.
7. Will what I share in session be shared with anyone else?
Client information is legally defined as “privileged” information which means it is strictly protected and confidential between the client and therapist. However, there are a few exceptions when confidentiality can legally be broken:
1. if the therapist believes the client is in imminent and immediate danger or harming
themselves or someone else; if the client reports they intend to physically harm
someone else, the law requires the therapist to inform that person as well as the
legal authorities
2. if knowledge or suspicion is disclosed concerning: child abuse or neglect, abuse or
neglect of an elderly person, or abuse or neglect of a disabled person
3. if there is an order by a court of law to release records
4. if you are a minor and your parent(s) or guardian(s) request to see records of the minor

It is very important when working with minors to give them a safe and private space to share and voice their difficulties and concerns. However, there may be times when the therapist may need to speak with the parent(s) or guardian(s). The information shared will be presented in general terms and the matter at hand will first be discussed with the minor and will then be presented to the parent(s) or guardian(s). Please know if your child is at risk of harming themselves or someone else or is engage in child abuse, elder abuse, or abuse of disabled person you will be notified immediately.
